Energy-Based Prediction of the Peak and Cumulative Response of a Reinforced Concrete Building with Steel Damper Columns

A steel damper column is an energy-dissipating member that suitable for reinforced concrete (RC) buildings and multistory housing. To assess the seismic performance of with columns, peak displacement whole building energy dissipation demand dampers must be evaluated. This article proposes energy-based prediction procedure cumulative response RC frame columns. The proposed considers two energy-related intensity parameters, namely maximum momentary input total energy. predicted considering balance during a half cycle structural response, using then local responses (e.g., drift, plastic rotation beams, shear strain, dampers) are pushover analysis. Numerical analysis results 8- 16-story show method achieves satisfactory accuracy.
